This is Korean search data, taken from the Naver Search Advisor records of 53 Korean local-service sites. When people open the webmaster tool, they usually look at the query report first, because it shows at a glance which searches brought visitors in.
We measured how much of total impressions that report actually represents. For each site, we added up the impressions of the top 30 queries in the report and divided by the site's total impressions for the same reporting period.
Finding 01
Lay impressions out as 100 squares, and only 4.1 of them carry a query from the report
The last square is filled only up to the decimal.
Of 1,004,300 impressions, 41,207 came from the top 30 rows. The remaining 95.9% came from queries that never appear in the report.
Finding 02
Depending on the site, the report covered anywhere from 0.3% to 37.4%
One column per site (53 sites), sorted by share; the blue column is the median site.
The five sites with the highest coverage all had 6,500 impressions or fewer, below the median total of 9,300 across all 53 sites.
Finding 03
The more impressions an industry group had, the smaller the share the report covered
From top to bottom, total impressions increase.
Sites with more impressions draw far more distinct queries, so a larger share spills past the 30 rows.
| Industry group | Sites | Impressions, top 30 rows | Total impressions | Report share (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legal services | 13 | 6,560 | 513,300 | |
| Construction & repair | 14 | 3,639 | 248,000 | |
| Hair salons | 8 | 7,048 | 128,300 | |
| Specialty cleaning | 10 | 8,216 | 62,200 | |
| Diet & body care | 8 | 15,744 | 52,500 |
So what should performance be judged by?
- Read the query report as a sample of what brought people in, not as a total.
- Look at impressions by page and at indexing status alongside it. Most impressions come from queries outside the report.
- The more impressions a site gets, the larger the share outside the report. As a site grows, give page-level metrics more weight.
Methodology
- Each site's query data is the top 30 rows of its Naver Search Advisor query report, sorted by clicks, rather than the site's full query set.
- Report impressions and total impressions come from the same reporting period and the same capture date.
- Total impressions are the rounded display values Search Advisor shows, so the last digits are not exact.
- The report is sorted by clicks, so queries that have earned impressions but no clicks yet are pushed toward the bottom of it.
- The reporting period is the last 60 days and the capture date is 2026-08-16. All 53 sites share the same reporting period.
