What our SEO work scope covers

We adapted a taxonomy used outside Korea to Korean practice, organized it into 13 topic clusters, and marked every item as covered, partly covered, not written yet, or out of scope. Keeping the out-of-scope items visible is the point of this document.

Numbers are item counts. “Out of scope” items are counted too; leaving them out would make the coverage look larger than it is.

Criteria

Why we didn’t use a global taxonomy as is

Added: Korean search

Global taxonomies leave Naver out entirely. More than half of searches in Korea happen there and its rules differ from Google’s, so we added this whole cluster.

Removed: regulatory rules

Rules such as Korea’s Medical Service Act and Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising aren’t knowledge categories; they’re practical conditions that apply differently by industry. Mixing them into this map blurs both, so we handle them per industry during kickoff design.

Changed: local

Local SEO in global taxonomies centers on Google Business Profile. In Korea it centers on Naver Place, Naver’s local business listings, so we replaced the items themselves.

Items don’t get one page each. Turning 95 items into 95 pages would mean copying a template with no data behind it, which is what Google describes as scaled content abuse. An item becomes a page only once there’s something real to write.

Taxonomy

What each of the 13 topic clusters covers

This is the complete taxonomy DATAPREPREP works from. Each cluster has a fixed anchor link, so the order and URLs stay the same.

SEO fundamentals

How do you decide what to target?

The stage where you decide what to target. Query-type screening comes first here.

Korean search

What’s different about search in Korea?

A cluster missing entirely from global taxonomies. More than half of Korean searches happen here, and the rules differ from Google’s.

Technical SEO

What do you check first in technical SEO?

If crawling or indexing is blocked here, everything after it is wasted. That’s why we look here first.

On-page SEO

What determines the structure of a single document?

The structure of a single document. It’s formatting work, so it’s the lowest-cost area.

Content SEO

What do we write?

What gets written. This is the core of what we produce.

Content optimization

How do you improve documents that already exist?

Improving existing documents. It often comes before creating new ones.

Local SEO

Why did we drop local search?

In Korea, local search centers on Naver Place, Naver’s local business listings. We dropped this entire cluster in 2026-07 and publish the reasons here.

  • Naver PlaceOut of scopeListing and review management sit outside our scope; they don’t match the kind of assets we build
  • NAP ConsistencyPartly coveredHandled as part of consistent entity naming
  • Google Business ProfileOut of scopeListing and profile management sit outside our scope
  • Local CitationsOut of scopeSame as above
  • ReviewsOut of scopeWe neither write nor solicit reviews; it conflicts with Korea’s Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising and with platform policies
  • Local KeywordsOut of scopePages that only swap place names can count as scaled content abuse, so we removed the local axis entirely

B2B SaaS SEO

Which B2B SaaS queries have citation opportunities?

One cluster on the industry axis. Buyers spend a long stretch researching on their own.

AI SEO

What do we cover in AI search?

The core of the business, and the cluster we cover most deeply.

Analytics

What do we use as metrics?

A metric has to be in the contract. We count only what can actually be counted.

  • SEO ReportingCoveredA definitions table of which metrics can and can’t be counted
  • Google Analytics (GA4)CoveredWhy AI referrals don’t show up
  • Google Search ConsolePartly coveredThe free audit covers indexing status
  • Crawl AuditsPartly coveredOne of the five checks in the free audit
  • Traffic AnalysisCoveredUp to why only part of AI traffic gets captured
  • Rank TrackingOut of scopeRankings vary with personalization and location, so they aren’t used as performance metrics
  • Keyword TrackingOut of scopeSame as above. We record indexing rate and citation counts instead

Tools

Why are tools outside our scope?

Tool reviews are outside our scope. Introductions to other companies’ products aren’t citable assets for us.

  • AhrefsOut of scopeTool reviews and comparisons sit outside our scope
  • SEMrushOut of scopeSame as above
  • Screaming FrogOut of scopeSame as above
  • SitebulbOut of scopeSame as above
  • Surfer SEOOut of scopeSame as above
  • Keywords EverywhereOut of scopeSame as above
  • Google Search ConsolePartly coveredCovered only as items we check in the free audit, not as a tool introduction
  • Google AnalyticsPartly coveredSame as above

Growth

How far do we go when talking about growth?

This cluster deals with results, so we write it most carefully. Results appear here only once they exist.

We build to the standards written here. First, we check where your current website is getting stuck.
